Kamov Ka-226T hard-to-reach mountainous areas helicopter
The Kamov Ka-226T is light multipurpose helicopter with the maximum take-off weight of 4,000 tons. The Ka-226T is intended for performing special tasks including cargo transportation (up to 1,630 kg), and passenger/service personnel transportation to hard-to-reach mountainous areas, under conditions of hot climate and over the offshore water. The helicopter is powered with two ARRIUS 2G1 turbo-shaft engines.
The helicopter prototype demonstrates hovering ceiling 6,500 meters and service ceiling 7,500 meters. The power reserves are suffcient to achieve flight altitude of no less than 8,000 m. Ka-226T rotor system blades, transportation cabin, empennage are made frompolymeric composite materials, and landing gear is quadricycle, non-retractable. Each replaceable module features two emergency LH and RH exits and rear exit with folding door. Enhanced glazing of cockpit canopy gives crew members an extensive of view, and shock-absorbing pilot seats are fitted with safety harness system. Rotor system blades feature ice protection electrical system. To perform the helicopter servicing the principle of on-condition maintenance is envisaged.
The Kamov Ka-226T features:
- designed as a version of serially-produced and certied Ka-226;
- modular design;
- increased altitude (by 1.5 times);
- increased payload (by 1.3 times);
- enhanced Category A zone.
The Ka-226T is demanded for:
- cargo transportation, passenger/service personnel transportation.
- SAR missions over mountainous areas and under conditions of confined space of modern urban architecture;
- rescue, patrol and administrative tasks in hard-to-reach mountainous areas, remote districts of Far
North and hot climate zones;
- ship operations and offshore petroleum support.
Ka-226T production is to be launched at Kumertau Aviation plant by 2011 where the Ka-226 is being serially produced. It retained the best advantages of its predecessor (Ka-226): modular design, simple piloting, low vibration, reliability, safety flying and easy maintenance. Both helicopters (Ka-226 and Ka-226T) have high level of unification with regard to rotor system, power supply system, assemblies and other components.
Possessing the enhanced margins regarding flight altitude and ambient temperature for Category A operation the Ka-226T is more suitable for performing missions in hard-to-reach regions (mountainous areas, torrid zone, north lands, over sea surface) or under restrictions of modern urban zone with its confined space and densely build-up.
The Ka-226T helicopter can be applied in the following versions:
- CARGOTRANSPORTATION (cargo transportation inside the cabin or by external sling system). Mission equipment: cargo transportation module, external cargo sling system, jump seats.
- PASSENGER TRANSPORTATION (VIP and service personnel transportation) Mission equipment: passenger transportation module of VIP version fitted with 5 seats, Economy-class version fitted with 7 seats and Service-class version fitted with 9 seats.
- SEARCH AND RESCUE (search of casualties, delivery of rescue team with mission equipment set, evacuation of casualties); Mission equipment: cargo transportation module, under-slung pod with special equipment, rescue winches, floodlight, external cargo sling system, rappelling system, stretcher.
- EMERGENCY MEDICAL ASSISTANCE (paramedic delivery, first aid assistance and critical care provided on board); Mission equipment: medical module, special equipment, rescue winch.
- PATROL (aerial patrolling, service personnel transportation, mission groups landing by rappelling system); Mission equipment: cargo transportation module, airborne surveillance system, floodlight, rappelling system, loud speaking system.
- TRAINING (flight training); Mission equipment: cargo transportation module, control system double redundancy, instructor instrument panel, jump seats.
